Position Purpose

Acting on own initiative, the Chain Specialist Manager is responsible for leading and directing the Chain Specialist team in the assigned division. This position will direct chain merchandising wholesaler activities; including writing programs, goal setting by brand, by planner position, by banner, planner communications, and managing team and wholesaler to hit program goals. Schedules and conducts team meetings, including direction for each Specialist’s area as it pertains to their assigned banners and programs, and presenting at general sales meetings.

Functional Responsibility
  • Manages and monitors day-to-day operations and team performance to ensure smooth workflows and that company standards are met
  • Manages company culture and holds self, peers, and direct reports accountable for demonstrating a constructive company culture through influential, personal behavior and actions; encourages strong work ethic and fosters an environment of trust and respect
  • Develops and aligns individual goals with the department's operational goals; ensures that decisions, actions, and priorities are aligned with the company's vision, mission, and strategies
  • Researches best practices, stays abreast of industry trends, and maintains awareness of regulatory changes to ensure compliance and continually improve operations
  • Assists in preparing the departmental budget, monitors spending, and directs team in cost-effective operations to ensure adherence to financial objectives
  • Monitors performance and regularly communicates with direct reports to achieve mutual understanding and desired results
  • Partners with immediate manager to determine staffing needs; attracts, motivates, and retains a workforce with the appropriate knowledge, skills, and abilities to achieve goals and objectives
  • Provides employees with a safe, healthy, and rewarding work environment; ensures delivery and completion of monthly safety topics
  • Communicates and supports change initiatives and decisions in an effective manner to successfully guide team through change
  • Fosters a work environment that encourages creative thinking, promotes flexibility, and drives innovation
  • Addresses employee issues, concerns, and complaints in an objective and confidential manner; notifies HR Business Partner and keeps immediate manager informed as appropriate
  • Ensures compliance and consistent application of company policies, initiatives, and decisions
  • Coaches, guides, and develops direct reports; fully engages in the GPS (Performance Management) process; provides high-quality feedback, and ensures proper GPS documentation of employee performance, recognition, and deficiencies
Essential Duties
  • Responsible for conducting weekly meetings with wholesaler merchandising management and monthly meetings at the executive level with their Regional Sales Manager
  • Works with the wholesaler to develop programming, track progress and monitor sales
  • Develops and maintains strong relationships with account and wholesaler personnel
  • Conducts weekly and monthly wholesaler chain team meetings to review and set goals for programming and planner execution
  • Monitors field implementation and execution of national programs to ensure accurate product pricing and management of program deadlines
  • Writes and tracks internal incentives based on company goals and objectives for chain specialists
  • Meets and exceeds sales goals in assigned territory
  • Executes weekly and monthly sales planner programming in regional and national retail accounts; Execute Sales Planner to drive incremental display opportunity off plan
  • Utilizes available marketing materials to support respective promotion/tie-in periods to maximize Delicato’s sales and increase consumer awareness
  • Analyzes Syndicated Data and other sales reports to evaluate brand trends and increase effectiveness in fact-based selling; trains chain team members to accurately read, understand and apply Syndicated Data and other sales reports to in-store sales pitches and wholesaler trainings
  • Conducts wine tastings to increase consumer, retailer, and wholesaler awareness of Delicato’s brands
  • Responsible for managing activities in compliance with state and federal laws and regulations
  • Conducts and coordinates sales surveys and blitzes during key selling periods of the year
  • Monitors merchandising and competitive sales trends and activities
  • Builds, merchandises, and maintains displays of Delicato’s brands
  • Submits required reports and expenses in a timely manner, meets all prescribed deadlines
  • Manages wholesaler support budget, including tracking programming and spends and updating accrual templates
  • Manages team T&E budget and sample budget
  • Presents at monthly AE meetings with Strategic Account Managers
  • Other duties may be assigned
Non-Essential Duties
  • Attends chain account promotions and events, when necessary
  • Attends and participates in divisional and national sales meetings
  • Responsible for Chain Global Sales Meeting content/presentations
  • Monitors competitive pricing and reports potential threats to management
  • Increases level of wine knowledge through ongoing education
Minimum Requirements
Education and Experience
  • Bachelor’s Degree with emphasis on Business Administration or Sales and Marketing, or equivalent experience
  • 3+ years combination wine supplier and/or wholesaler experience in selling wine, building brands, calling on customers
  • Wholesaler management, market knowledge
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Must possess excellent verbal communication, presentation, customer service, organizational, and merchandising skills
  • Intermediate to advanced skill set with MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)
  • Ability to navigate the internet/intranet and use Syndicated Data for effective business development
  • Ability to work independently and build relationships
Certificates and Licenses
  • Valid driver’s license, auto insurance, and a vehicle required with an acceptable driving record
Working Conditions
  • Requires ability to travel frequently and flexibility in schedule to work evenings and weekends as needed
  • This is a remote position that requires working from home
  • Occasionally may be required to lift and carry cases of wine
  • Required to talk & listen
  • May need to determine color, taste and smell of wine using eyes, tongue, and nose
  • May be exposed to weather-related temperature & humidity extremes
  • Operates keyboard & mouse
