About us and desired candidate:
Stono Market originated in 1987 as a Farmer's Market to sell produce and seafood harvested by the Ambrose Family. The Tomato Shed Cafe was created to take advantage of the abundance of fresh ingredients and to minimize waste. First, aiming to feed the hungry employees of the nearby tomato packing sheds then growing to feeding nearly 300 meals a day in a single lunch service. Now we want to start serving supper again. We are seeking someone with the same passions of our founding. Someone that is creative, enjoys utilizing fresh and local proteins and produce, meanwhile minimizing waste. Stono Market and Tomato Shed Cafe offers a unique, laid back, southern atmosphere. Our ideal Chef/Cook addition will also be unique and laid back, coupled with other qualities like being, goal-driven, focused, organized, proactive and charismatic. The chosen candidate will be a skilled, seasoned professional that aims to benefit the business, is enthusiastic about their work, and possesses superb work ethic. Since our beginnings were from farming and not restauranting, our structure is also very different. Promoting a united FOH and BOH, tips are split between the chef/cook, line cook and servers. We find that pooling and splitting tips stimulates the team in meeting the common goal - customer satisfaction.
Your daily routine:
In the beginning you will work with existing staff and management, training and getting a grasp on the normal practices of the new workplace. After you’re comfortable in your surroundings you'll be working to hire and train your dream team. The team will consist of a lead prep cook, line cook and a dishwasher. The hiring process is complete and training them begins, working with them individually and preparing for the grand re-opening. Near the first part of March the doors open and customers start pouring in to enjoy your delicious Southern specials and the friendly atmosphere.
Your regular weekly schedule will consist of one weekday (Tuesday or Wednesday). This day is spent planning, prepping, organizing, creating lists, communicating with lunch staff, and ordering product. You also get to be creative and plan for the week’s flavorful southern specials. While being creative you will also be upholding the quality and consistency of the Tomato Shed's lifelong dishes. Supper service is Thursday through Saturday and you'll be busy managing the kitchen staff and presenting your delicious creations for customers to enjoy. Collaborating with the FOH manager will be essential to upholding the welcoming, family friendly atmosphere. At the end of the evening, you will be cleaning while assisting and encouraging the other team members to leave the kitchen clean and organized.
Usually, around 10:30 or 11, you’ll be headed home to rest and recharge. Your work is usually complete in just 4, 10-hour days, leaving you plenty of time to have fun, rest, relax and prepare for coming week.
