We are an established Immigration law firm in downtown San Jose with an expanding team seeking a collaborative Legal Assistant/Paralegal with an established legal career. Experience in family-based or other immigration categories preferred but not required. This is a full-time on-site position (9-5, Mon-Fri). Bilingual Spanish/English reading, writing and speaking at a professional level is strongly encouraged for this position. We are willing to train applicants without immigration or even legal experience in outstanding circumstances, but basic administrative experience is a must.
Responsibilities
Recruits will process primarily family-based immigration applications (I-601, AOS, U-Visa procedures, RFEs, etc) using E-filing software, as well as organize, manage and track caseloads, assemble required evidence and documents, and be aware of filing deadlines.
- Perform basic administrative tasks, such as printing, filing, scanning, and taking phone calls.
- Prepare and review documents with the attorney.
- Use E-filing, word processor, spreadsheet, database, and case management software.
- Collaborate with colleagues to track and file cases.
- Compose memos and record production.
- Compose reviews, translations, summaries, emails and statements in English and Spanish.
- Provide written analysis of Immigration-related policy to the attorney.
- Communicate with colleagues and hold meetings in English and Spanish.
- Conduct client intake over the phone or in person in English and Spanish under direction of the attorney.
- Communicate with clients by email.
Education
- BA/BS or higher in related field strongly preferred
- ABA Paralegal certificate, Paralegal studies AA, or paralegal experience preferred but not required
Skills and Qualifications
- Bilingual English/Spanish strongly preferred (conversationally and professionally proficient with native speakers)
- Knowledge of family-based immigration case types and procedures preferred
- 2 years experience minimum in a law firm environment, or administrative experience
- Basic administrative knowledge (Filing, scanning, printing, faxing)
- Basic legal software knowledge (E-filing, word processor, spreadsheet and case management software).
- Professional conduct in an office environment
- Experience with case management
- Experience with customer service, or client communication

- Desk-based work at a computer, or with physical packets
- Must be able to lift 15 or more pounds at a time
