The Senior Interior Designer leads creative efforts within the studio and on client projects, mentors and provides creative direction to design teams, and plays a critical role in setting the standard for what goes out the door. This includes project design strategies, work product/presentations, and project design direction. This individual will champion HLW design and promote our culture and approach to design both internally and externally. The Senior Interior Designer will take an active role in new business development, as well as be responsible for assisting the Studio Managing Director(s), Partner/Principal in Charge, and Project Manager in managing the financial success for projects within their respective studios.

Job Responsibilities:

Leadership and Organizational

  • Responsible for assisting the Studio Managing Director(s), Partner/Principal in Charge and Project Manager in maintaining the client relationship, project delivery, and project profitability.
  • In collaboration with the Studio Managing Director(s), Partner/Principal in Charge and Project Manager, lead design presentations to the client, consultants, vendors & other professionals internally and externally.
  • Facilitate interior design practice area meetings in collaboration with the Studio MD and Global Design Director.
  • Is an active participant in the Global Design Group.
  • Manage and facilitate project design and peer pinups/reviews. These meetings are to be documented in written summary and submitted to the Managing Studio Directors.
  • Identify and strategize continued design innovation and improvement of our design process and product.
  • Have a thorough knowledge and understanding of HLW MVGV statement and instill the meaning within all actions performed.
  • Develop and demonstrate specific Market Sector expertise and skills.
  • Demonstrate the ability to clearly communicate firm policies & procedures including project delivery processes.
  • Demonstrate a high level of leadership skills in supervising others including managing staff, time utilization, adherence to design standards and performance of team members.
  • Coach, motivate, manage, mentor and develop interior designers within the Studio based on each person's function and individual needs.
  • Shall be thoroughly knowledgeable of the requirements of the assigned project and must use this knowledge to ensure compliance with the firm's contractual obligations.

Business Development and Marketing

  • In collaboration with Studio Managing Director(s), Partners/Principals-in-Charge and Market Sector Leaders associated with projects within the Studio, contribute to the preparation of proposals for new work and contribute to presentations.
  • Engage in making prospect and client calls.
  • Assist with new marketing visual materials in collaboration with Marketing and Business Development.

Role Qualifications:

  • Degree in Architecture or Interior Design from an accredited institution
  • 10 or more yeas of professional design experience as a senior designer (NCARB and/or NCIDQ registration highly preferred)
  • LEED accreditation highly preferred
  • Demonstrated design excellence
  • Ability and willingness to work in an entrepreneurial fashion to expand HLW's practice
  • Demonstrated ability for team and client leadership
  • Proven ability to manage and mentor staff on multiple projects
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to foster client and team confidence
  • Versatility with computer graphics software
  • Desire for growth and diversity in design process
  • Thorough knowledge of building codes and systems, accessibility requirements, office standards, policies and procedures
  • Thorough knowledge of legal and liability issues affecting work
