PenFed is hiring a (Hybrid) Social Media Specialist at our Tysons, Virginia location. The primary purpose of this job is to raise national visibility of PenFed and The PenFed Foundation through social media platforms, including Facebook, LinkedIn, Instagram, Twitter and YouTube. The social media specialist will be responsible for creating and scheduling posts, maintaining a content calendar, engaging with partners to share content, and strategizing with the team on innovative ways to continuously grow our following.

  • Create, caption and schedule all PenFed and PenFed Foundation posts on our primary social platforms, including the creative production of reels, stories and occasionally, social ads. In some cases, our posts will need to be reviewed by Compliance and HR before they're published.
  • Respond in a timely manner to PenFed colleagues who submit photos for our consideration and collaborate to create timely posts.
  • Maintain separate and unique content calendars for the Credit Union and the Foundation. Stay up to date on military holidays and other notable dates that are relevant to our mission.
  • Actively seek content for our weekly franchises, including #PenFedPurpose (highlighting our community service), #FeelGoodFriday and #MemorialMonday, and attempt to leverage trends.
  • Serve as content curator, pitching new ideas and working closely with the team to ensure everyone is aligned on upcoming strategy and priorities.
  • Works alongside producers to identify and craft social campaigns
  • Document and distribute metrics on a monthly basis, featuring successes and opportunities for improvement
  • Assist PenFed Digital producers with background research on upcoming projects and shoots
  • Represent PenFed Digital at special events as needed
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Equivalent combination of education and experience is considered.


  • Bachelor's Degree in a related field, preferably in digital media, marketing or communications.
  • Minimum of two (2) years in social media creation.
  • Experience working with social media platforms is required.
  • Proficiency in Canva, Hootsuite, Meta Business Suite, Basecamp is highly desirable.
  • Excellent writing skills required. Social copy experience preferred.
  • Ideal candidate is a team player with a positive attitude, highly organized, a quick learner and able to perform well under pressure and with frequent deadlines.

  • There are no additional certifications required.
Work Environment

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to an indoor office setting with moderate noise. Additionally, office space will be shared with a PenFed sponsored service dog in training.

*Most roles require working in an office setting with moderate noise and the ability to lift 25 pounds.*

Travel

Ability to travel to various worksites and be on-call may be required.
