Northrop Grumman’s Armament Systems Business Unit is looking for an entry-level Specialties Systems Engineer in Plymouth, MN to support development of munition and fuzing systems.

Please note this position may be filled as an Associate Systems Engineer (level 1), or a Systems Engineer (level 2), depending on the candidate’s education and/or years of experience

Responsibilities of the Position:

  • Work with team members to plan and execute system safety, reliability, product support, and cybersecurity tasks to support a wide variety of program types.
  • Perform hazard assessments, identify and document risk, and communicate with members of the team to identify risk mitigation measures.
  • Perform detailed analyses in support of risk assessments, including Failure Mode Effects and Criticality Analysis (FMECA), Fault Tree Analysis (FTA), and Software Hazard Analysis (SWHA).
  • Work within the Specialties Engineering team to identify applicable standards and guidance to apply to systems.
  • Work with Systems Engineering to define, track, and verify requirements that support system development objectives tied to safety, reliability, product support, human factors, and product cybersecurity.
  • Work with Test Engineering and Environmental Health & Safety (EH&S) to help define processes and procedures that permit safe conduct and execution of test events and manufacturing of explosives.

Minimum Qualifications for Associate Systems Engineer (level 1)

  • Bachelor of Science in an engineering discipline, plus 0 experience.
  • Ability to obtain a DOD Secret clearance.
  • Strong interest, desire, and eagerness to learn a wide variety of possible skills across a number of disciplines, including Mechanical, Electrical, Software, and Production Engineering, statistics, and modeling and simulation.
  • Familiarity with standard Microsoft Office products and ability to learn new toolsets.
  • Good verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills

Minimum Qualifications Systems Engineer (level2)

  • Bachelor of Science in an engineering discipline, plus 2 years of experience. Or, master’s degree plus 0 experience.
  • Ability to obtain a DOD Secret clearance.
  • Strong interest, desire, and eagerness to learn a wide variety of possible skills across a number of disciplines, including Mechanical, Electrical, Software, and Production Engineering, statistics, and modeling and simulation.
  • Familiarity with standard Microsoft Office products and ability to learn new toolsets.
  • Good verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Active DoD Secret Clearance
  • Any relevant experience in hazard/risk assessment methods/techniques
  • Any relevant safety, reliability, or cybersecurity certifications (e.g. GSEC, ASP, etc.).


Salary Range: $67,000 USD - $100,600 USD


Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
