Long Beach Day Nursery is a nonprofit organization that has been providing high quality child care to the Long Beach community for over 110 years.

SUMMARY

Under the direction of the Associate Center Director and Cook, the Kitchen Assistant helps prepare and deliver healthy meals to the children enrolled at LBDN in accordance with the requirements of the California Adult and Child Food Program and other applicable laws and regulations. The Kitchen Assistant is responsible for assisting in the kitchen and maintaining the cleanliness of the kitchen.

Kitchen Assistant/Dishwasher Responsibilities:

• Assist Cooks in maintaining the kitchen areas to health standards.
• Wash, sanitize and store dishes, tableware, and kitchen equipment.
• Assistant in preparing and serving meals and snacks with correct portion sizes.
• Set and deliver food carts.
• Diligent in review of child allergy list to ensure proper food substitutions are provided for children with allergies.
• Assist with the completion of appropriate documentation for the food program administration.
• Follow food service professional sanitation standards, including dress, appearance, hygiene and habits.
• Re-stock paper supplies as needed.
• The substitute Kitchen Assistant will cover at either branch when the Cook or Assistant Cook for the branch is out

Kitchen Assistant Qualifications

• High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
• CACFP Experience Preferred
• License: ServSafe Food Handler Preferred
